David Goodman B Business - Acct, FCA
David was raised in Cairns attending Edge Hill Primary School and Trinity Bay State High School before leaving for boarding school at Church of England Grammar School in Brisbane. David undertook Tertiary Education at Queensland Institute of Technology (now Queensland University of Technology - Gardens Point Campus) obtaining a Bachelor of Business - Accountancy.
His entry into the professional workforce was with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants in Brisbane one of the largest Firms in the world. David’s area was audit and included local, national and international clients. At this Firm he completed his qualifications as a Chartered Accountant. David left this Firm to join what was Hall Chadwick (now WHK Greenwoods) in Cairns as their Audit Manager. At this Firm he obtained his qualification as a Local Government Auditor and Tax Agent. David’s interest in Local Government took him to Mulgrave Shire Council as the Finance Manager and Assistant to the Shire Clerk. Whilst at the Council David undertook Post Graduate Study to become a Town Clerk. Some of his assignments were published as future course material.
David left Mulgrave to commence his own Accountancy Practice at Smithfield in 1988. The Accountancy Practice is focused on small business and covers all areas including; audit, taxation, accountancy, management and corporate advice. David commenced a financial planning business in conjunction with his practice having obtained the appropriate qualifications. The Firms clients are located throughout Australia and overseas.
David holds a Bachelor of Business - Accountancy and Registration as a Tax Agent, Justice of the Peace (Qualified), Local Government Auditor and Local Government Clerk, Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking). David is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, Member of the Local Government Managers Association and the Local Government Accountants Association. David is an Authorised Representative of Securitor Financial Group.
David has served on various Committees in a variety of roles including; Institute of Chartered Accountants Student Council in Queensland, Local Government Accountants in Queensland, Cairns/Mulgrave Rotary Club, Finance Director of Cairns Hockey Association and currently Chairman of Roman Catholic Diocese of Cairns Audit Committee, Treasurer of Trinity Anglican School Board, Treasurer of Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club and Member of KickArts Contemporary Arts Board.
Michelle Blake FNA
Michelle (Shelley) Blake is a Member of National Institute of Accountants, a Fellow of Taxation Institute of Australia, a Registered Tax Agent, and a Commissioner for Declarations (Qld). She has over twenty years experience in the accountancy and taxation field, providing a complete range of services to individuals and small business clients. She came to Goodman Chartered Accountants in November 2008 after ten years in public practice, operating from her home at Smithfield.
Mandy Beeton FCA
Mandy Beeton qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 after having first obtained an honors degree in Mathematics from the University of Surrey. Mandy has been in the Accountancy profession for over 20 years and emigrated to Australia in 2008. Mandy has also taken and passed her Australian accounting exams to bridge the gap in UK and Australian tax and law issues. Mandy has a diverse knowledge of different types and sizes of business, having worked in the UK, Bermuda and Australia in four different sized accounting firms.
Kym King
Kym commenced her career as a computer programmer with the Australian Government Retirement Benefits Office in Canberra after completing an Associate Diploma in Computing at the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education. A desire to travel led her to consultancy work on a contract basis with a number of firms in the UK.
On her return to Australia Kym and her husband Don owned and operated a number of small businesses. The experience gained in this area was later utilised within the vocational education and training sector where Kym provided training and assessed students undertaking studies from Certificate II to Diploma level in the Business Administration training package.
After completion of a Diploma of Business Management a desire for further knowledge lead her to the completion of a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting at James Cook University in Cairns. On completion of her degree in 2006 Kym was employed at KPMG in the business services division where she gained experience in the areas of accounting, taxation and audit of a range of different entities including Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, and Superannuation Funds.
Kym commenced employment at Goodman Chartered Accountants in 2011 with an aim to further diversify her knowledge and skills in the taxation environment.
Greg Stanton B Commerce CA
Greg Stanton is a born and bred Cairns local. Before deciding on a career in accountancy, Greg spent 4 years in the local building industry where he achieved a trade qualification in carpentry. He also spent one year managing a local retail store, while attending University. Greg started with William Buck as a graduate accountant in January 2004. When William Buck Cairns was taken over by WHK Greenwoods in June 2006 Greg was promoted to Senior Auditor. In March 2008 Greg joined the team at Goodman Chartered Accountants as Audit Manager. He moved to a smaller firm to diversify his skills and gain experience in tax. He enjoys interaction with clients and thrives on expanding his knowledge. Greg completed the CA program and was admitted into the Institute of Chartered accountants in April 2009.
Martin Ball
Martin Ball has over three decades of experience in the financial services industry. Martin’s Financial Service experience has been gained through a combination of extensive Commercial and Agribusiness Banking as a Senior Bank Officer and in the financial planning industry as a financial adviser . Martin has the skills, knowledge and expertise combined with up to date technology to assist clients to identify and achieve their investment and retirement objectives. Martin holds the following qualifications Diploma of Financial Advising, Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance & Investment and Associate Diploma of Business (Banking & Finance)
Tarin Moke
Tarin Moke is the Practice Manager and co-ordinates the daily operations of the Accountancy Firm. Tarin handles the Corporate Compliance Affairs of over 130 private companies and manages a portfolio of community taxation returns. After joining the Practice in January 2007, Tarin has since completed her Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking) and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accountancy at James Cook University. Tarin is also Treasurer and player representative of the North Cairns Tigers Netball and Women’s AFL teams of which Goodman Chartered Accountants is a proud sponsor.
Ashleigh Blakey
Ashleigh Blakey is responsible for the first impressions of the Office as the Receptionist as well as the records management. Ashleigh has three years experience in retail and decided on a career change to work towards long-term sustainable employment. Ashleigh joined the Practice in October, 2010 and has since completed a Certificate 4 in Business Administration.
Tamara Hughes
Tamara Hughes is the newest employee to the firm. Tamara has had eleven years experience in Hospitality and decided on a career change to work towards new skills and achievements as well as establishing a long-term career path. Tamara has completed a Certificate 4 in Small Business Management, Certificate 4 in Hospitality (Supervisor) and completed Custodial Awareness Training. Tamara also represents North Cairns Tigers Netball.
