David was raised in Cairns attending Edge Hill Primary School and Trinity Bay State High School before leaving for boarding school at Church of England Grammar School in Brisbane. David undertook Tertiary Education at Queensland Institute of Technology (now Queensland University of Technology - Gardens Point Campus) obtaining a Bachelor of Business - Accountancy.
His entry into the professional workforce was with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants in Brisbane one of the largest Firms in the world. David's area was audit and included local, national and international clients. At this Firm he completed his qualifications as a Chartered Accountant. David left this Firm to join what was Hall Chadwick (now Crowe Horwath) in Cairns as their Audit Manager. At this Firm he obtained his qualification as a Local Government Auditor and Tax Agent. David's interest in Local Government took him to Mulgrave Shire Council as the Finance Manager and Assistant to the Shire Clerk. Whilst at the Council David undertook Post Graduate Study to become a Town Clerk. Some of his assignments were published as future course material.
David left Mulgrave to commence his own Accountancy Practice at Smithfield in 1988. The Accountancy Practice is focused on small business enterprises and covers all areas including; audit, taxation, accountancy, management and corporate advice. David commenced a financial planning business in conjunction with his practice having obtained the appropriate qualifications as an Authorised Representative. To compliment this David qualified with a Diploma in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking) and also a Diploma of Financial Planning.
The Firm's clients are located throughout Australia and overseas.
David holds the following qualifications; Bachelor of Business - Accountancy, Diploma in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking), Diploma of Financial Planning, Local Government Auditor, Local Government Clerk. Registration as a Tax Agent, Australian Financial Services Licensee and Justice of the Peace (Qualified). David is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Chartered Tax Advisor with the Taxation Institute of Australia, Member of the Financial Planners Association and Member of the Local Government Managers Association.
David has served on various Committees in a variety of roles including; Institute of Chartered Accountants Student Council in Queensland, Local Government Accountants in Queensland, Cairns/Mulgrave Rotary Club, Finance Director of Cairns Hockey Association, Chairman of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cairns Audit Committee, Member of KickArts Contemporary Arts Board and currently, Deputy Chairman and Treasurer of Trinity Anglican School Board, Treasurer of Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club and Treasurer of Cairns Historical Society.
Mandy Beeton BSc, FCA
Mandy Beeton qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 after having first obtained an honors degree in Mathematics from the University of Surrey. Mandy has been in the Accountancy profession for over 20 years and emigrated to Australia in 2008. Mandy has also taken and passed her Australian accounting exams to bridge the gap in UK and Australian tax and law issues. Mandy has a diverse knowledge of different types and sizes of business, having worked in the UK, Bermuda and Australia in four different sized accounting firms.
Rachel Grant BCom Acc. CA
Rachel began her career in Office Administration completing a traineeship in Office Administration in Brisbane. She moved to Cairns in 2000 where she then worked as a Bookkeeper before joining Goodman Chartered Accountants in July 2005 as our Practice Manager. After completing a Diploma of Bookkeeping, a desire to expand her knowledge led Rachel to start studying her accountancy degree in 2007. Rachel took a break from our Office to start a family and to complete her accountancy degree. She graduated from JCU in 2014, obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accountancy and was awarded an Academic Medal for her coursework. Rachel re-joined our firm in July 2014 and is now a fully qualified Chartered Accountant having completed the Chartered Accountants program in May 2017.
Angela Town is responsible for the administrative procedures of the practice. Ange was born and raised in Melbourne before making a seachange with her husband and young son and has been living in Cairns since the start of 2013. Ange has almost 20 years experience working for Accountants in Melbourne as a Receptionist and Administrative Assistant and prides herself on providing clients with a high level of service in the most friendly and efficient manner. Ange and her family are settling into life on the Northern Beaches and are keen to be a part of the community and experience everything that life in Cairns has to offer.
Tracey is our Front Office Receptionist/Undergraduate Accountant. Tracey was born in Melbourne and relocated to North Queensland when she was 5 years old where she attended Atherton State High School before moving to Cairns. Tracey worked at sea for 5 years onboard the M.V. Reef Endeavour and M.V. Oceanic Discoverer where she gained her Coxswain License (11m commercial boat license). Tracey travelled locally between Lizard Island and the Hinchinbrook Channel, and further afield to Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific. Choosing to start a family instead of working around the world on a Superyacht, Tracey now has two children and is studying towards her Bachelor of Accounting. Tracey enjoys hiking in her spare time and being part of the Cairns community.
